BRING JUSTICE TO THE JUSTICE SYSTEM.
The Equal Justice Initiative is an organization focused on challenging the 'norm' in the justice system and abolishing excessive incarceration in the United States.
Equal Justice Initiative also challenges the death penalty and provides re-entry assistance to formerly incarcerated people.
The EIJ has established a museum and memorial in Montgomery, AL, in an effort to spread further awareness on justice reform.
The United States has nearly 25% of its own population in jails or prisons.
Aside from fighting within the courtrooms the EIJ has developed short films, worked with legislation, and created new spaces, markers, and memorials that will be used to represent many social issues from the past and present.
Along with similar organizations, the Equal Justice Initiative has taken part in exonerating over 2,500 people since 1989.
